Pricing Priority Classes in a Diierentiated Services Network

چکیده

We study the role of pricing in packet-based telecommunication networks which use priorities to provide diierentiated Quality-of-Service (QoS). Customers are given the freedom to choose priorities, but are charged accordingly. Using a game theoretic framework, we study the case where customers choose an allocation of priorities to packets in order to optimize their net beneet. For the single link case, we show that there always exists a (Nash) equilibrium for the corresponding non-cooperative game, which, however, is not necessarily unique. Furthermore, we show that under each equilibrium, packet loss depends only on pricing decisions and therefore pricing becomes a tool to control link congestion.

Paris Metro Pricing: the Minimalist Diierentiated Services Solution

|Diierentiated services for the Internet are undergoing intensive development. It is widely accepted that they will require usage sensitive pricing. The Paris Metro Pricing (PMP) proposal is to rely on pricing alone to provide diierentiated services. PMP is the simplest diierentiated services system in terms of complexity.

Diierentiated Services Networks: Pricing and Software Agents

We consider packet-based networks that use the Diierentiated Services (DiiServ) proposal of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to provide quality of service. For our study, we model DiiServ as a priority service. Users are free to choose the priority that they attach to their packets, however are charged accordingly. For this service, one would expect that users will choose an allocatio...

A Case for Relative Di erentiated

Internet applications and users have very diverse quality-of-service expectations, making the same-service-to-all model of the current Internet inadequate and limiting. There is a widespread consensus today that the Internet architecture has to be extended with service diierentiation mechanisms, so that certain users and applications can get a better service than others at a higher cost. One ap...

Diierentiated End-to-end Internet Services Using a Weighted Proportional Fair Sharing Tcp

In this document we study the application of weighted proportional fairness to data ows in the Internet. We let the users set the weights of their connections in order to maximise the utility they get from the network. When combined with a pricing scheme where connections are billed by weight and time, such a system is known to maximise the total utility of the network. Our study case is a nati...
